A Typical Engagement With Patterson Advisors
|
Provider Research
It begins when you receive and review our current brochure, our Privacy Policy, Privacy Procedure,
Ethics Disclosure and SEC Form ADV, Part 2. We encourage you to research other financial planning
firms to help provide you with information necessary to be confident in your hiring decision. Patterson
Advisors is available for any questions.
Request to Meet:
Upon your inquiry into hiring our firm to help you, we will set up a preliminary appointment. Prior to your
appointment we request that you complete a preliminary life planning questionnaire. The questionnaire
helps us better understand your individual goals, values, attitudes and objectives and provides us with
basic information about you. Your candid input lays the groundwork for a productive and effective
meeting. Expect to find great value in our thought provoking questions!
First Appointment:
(no charge) During this meeting we get to know you and have the opportunity to introduce ourselves. The
goal of this appointment is to get to know you and what is important to you in order to ensure a good “fit”
so that we can work together successfully. The focus will be primarily on you and what is truly important to
you --your dreams. If applicable, we strongly encourage that both spouses attend this meeting. At the
same time, it is very important that you feel comfortable with us. This appointment drives the entire
engagement. The more information we get from you, the better we are equipped to advise you. We
encourage questions!
Data Gathering:
When you confirm that you would like to hire us to help you, the next step will require that you provide us
with more detailed information via our personally tailored comprehensive questionnaire. The detailed
data you provide will enable Patterson Advisors to analyze your needs and determine the effort needed to
complete your plan. The more effort you put in to documenting your situation, the better, more accurate
plan we can provide for you. Your commitment to this process is essential. We also ask prospective
clients to fill out "life planning" questionnaires to help us learn about the clients' values, feelings about
money and life goals. Answers to the life planning questions help us better serve our clients by giving us
a more in-depth understanding of what's really important to them.
Proposal:
After a thorough review of your detailed data we will prepare a written proposal detailing the scope and
cost of the engagement. Should you accept our proposal; the quoted price for services in the contract will
be set. Should our services take longer or are more involved than we had quoted; you will generally still
be charged the quoted fee in your contract. However, should you subsequently decide to significantly
increase the scope of the engagement, a contract amendment approved by both parties will be required.
Analysis:
Upon signing the contract, Patterson Advisors will begin your analysis. Patterson Advisors will utilize its
unique, detailed, and thoroughly established processes to ensure superior quality recommendations.
Open communication is used to ensure all questions are answered and information is complete and
accurate. Up-to-date and new cutting-edge techniques will be utilized whenever available and wherever
necessary. Should you have time-sensitive needs, Patterson Advisors will do everything it can to provide
you with our recommendations as soon as possible. Upon completion, you will be given our written
recommendations to review.
Plan Review:
After you have had time to review your written plan and note your questions, we will meet to review our
recommendations and answer your questions. The primary objective is to ensure that you fully
understand our analyses. It is imperative that you ask us any questions that you have in order to fully and
accurately implement our proposed changes.
Follow-up:
Should you have any questions after this appointment, you should feel free to contact us. Again, we
always welcome any question! Nevertheless, we will follow up with you to ensure your needs are
addressed. Nothing makes our jobs more gratifying than seeing your recommendations implemented! If
you decide that you would like additional assistance with the implementation of some or all of our
recommendations, we will always be available (additional fees may apply if the support needed requires
substantial effort and was not included in the original proposal).
Ongoing Support:
We consider you to be a current client for the 12 month period following delivery of our services. This
means you will receive our bi-annual newsletter as well our periodic e-newsletters (both written in house).
During that time, we will also be available to answer questions related to the analysis we have done for
you. For clients under annual contract for investment services support, we are available to answer
questions covering all aspects of the client’s financial situation (limited, of course to our expertise and
excluding issues requiring extensive analysis). Annual investment services clients are also entitled to one
3-4 hour “mini-analysis” of their choice, annually.
Note: The process above will vary for those clients who seek services other than a comprehensive
financial plan.
